The Structure

The Hothouse itself is an inspiring, purpose-built creative space on Salamanca Lawns, designed by Sydney's Cave Urban and University of Tasmania Masters of Architecture students.

The design of the Hothouse is intended to bring a conversation about education in Tasmania into the public and community sphere.
By placing the structure on Salamanca Lawns, education is brought out of private, personal and professional contexts and into a shared space.
The permeable structure encourages participation through its open entrances, the woven bamboo walls and roof allow the outside world and context to permeate the conversations and thinking within the house and smaller pod spaces.
Rather than a space to simply house people, the Hothouse helps facilitate and cultivate a context of openness, collaboration and community. A space in which subject experts, community members, young people and influencers can openly discuss and debate education.
